Jason Wu
The Jason Wu Collection is a manifestation of the eclectic and diverse background of its designer Jason Wu. Born in Taipei, but having also lived in Vancouver and Paris, the collection is youthful, sophisticated and always with a focus on making each garment crafted as beautifully inside as out.
Influenced by the classic photography of Richard Avedon and the works of Charles James and Jacques Fath, the Jason Wu collection aims to revitalize the art and perfection of dressing with a relaxed and youthful attitude. Jason is renowned for creating refined American sportswear while playfully mixing old world and modern elements, dashes of color use and combination that surprise creating the perfect feminine identity.
Although only 27, the Taipei native has already achieved many accomplishments. His family moved to Vancouver when Wu was 9 where he began learning how to sew, draft patterns, and sketch in fashion proportions by using dolls as mannequins. At the age of 14, he studied sculpture in Tokyo and then spent his senior year of high school in Paris, where he decided to become a fashion designer. Wu then moved to New York City and enrolled in the prestigious Parsons School of Design.
In 2006 he launched his collection, emerging as one of the leading NY-based young talents working today. The Jason Wu collection is carried at the finest luxury stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Lane Crawford, Colette, Jeffrey, Ikram, Brown’s, Tsum, Louis Boston, Daslu and Net-a-Porter. The young fashion star is a favorite among press, stylists and celebrities.
Jason continues to receive accolades including Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for Women’s Ready-to-Wear in January 2008 and in July 2008 he was named one of the finalists in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and in June 2010 won the Swarovski Award for Women’s Wear at the CFDA Fashion Awards.
